Stockholm, Sweden – 21 April 2026 – Epidemic Sound today announced a major strategic evolution, expanding beyond its core music catalog and licensing model to build a next-generation creative platform for modern content production, including Studio, the scaling of Plenty Labs (formerly VXA), and new AI-powered workflow tools for brands and creators.
The company is investing in AI-powered tools, automation, and integrated workflows that embed music and sound directly into the creative process, enabling customers to move from idea to publish-ready content faster, while maintaining full legal clarity, creative control, and human oversight at every step.
While its world-class catalog, global distribution, and industry-leading licensing model remain central, the company is changing its operating model and evolving into a full creative workflow partner, supporting how content is created, iterated, and published at scale. The shift reflects a broader transformation in content creation, where speed, scale, and AI-assisted workflows are redefining how creators and businesses produce media, while keeping creators firmly in control of the creative process.
Recent launches and updates include Adapt, Assistant, and Studio, an AI-first storytelling platform that allows users to soundtrack content with high-quality human-made music and sound effects in minutes, not hours, while keeping creative decision-making firmly in a creator’s hands.
As part of this evolution, Epidemic Sound is scaling Plenty Labs (formerly VXA), its recently acquired venture focused on helping marketers create high-performing ads faster and more efficiently. Already working with early adopters in e-commerce and digital advertising, Plenty Labs will launch later this year, and its customers will have access to Epidemic Sound’s world-class catalog and bullet-proof music licensing model. It marks an important step in Epidemic Sound’s expansion into high-growth marketing workflows, where demand for scalable, performance-led creative is accelerating rapidly.
The company will continue expanding its platform with new capabilities designed to enhance human creativity through AI, not replace it, and will soon be rolling out GenAI video creation capabilities for drafting and iterating content directly within the platform; a new auditing service for enterprise brands using our proprietary technology to detect, fix and prevent music licensing risk across every channel; and an enhanced API and audio intelligence offering for platforms, apps, and AI agents.
A key differentiator in this approach is Epidemic Sound’s ability to combine original human-created music, AI-assisted adaptation of that music, and, over time, fully generated audio, all within a single platform. This gives customers greater creative flexibility and control, while ensuring access to authentic, high-quality sound that cannot be replicated by AI-only providers.
“This is a natural next step for Epidemic Sound,” said Sara Börsvik, Interim CEO. “We’ve built a strong foundation with our catalog, licensing model, and global reach, with our music heard over 3 billion times daily. What’s changing is how content gets made. Creators and businesses no longer just want to search, they want to create, iterate, and publish seamlessly and safely across platforms. Our role is to support that entire workflow, not just one part of it, while ensuring they remain in control throughout the process.
She added: “We are building on our strengths, not moving away from them. Our bullet-proof licensing remains at the core, now powering a broader platform. This uniquely positions us to combine AI innovation with trusted IP, at a time when the legality of AI-generated content is under increasing scrutiny. Because we own and control our catalog, we can bring together human-created music and AI capabilities in a way that protects artists, creators, and customers, something that is increasingly critical in an AI-driven landscape.”
As it expands, Epidemic Sound will continue to invest in its global artist ecosystem, evolving toward a more demand-driven model aligned with customer needs, while maintaining a commitment to transparency, creator choice, and fair compensation, with humans remaining central to both the creative and economic model.
“Our mission has always been to solve real problems for content creators,” said Oscar Höglund, Co-founder and board member. “That means helping them move faster, scale output, and maintain quality, while ensuring legal certainty. AI allows us to remove production barriers, but we believe humans must remain in control of the creative process. That balance, combined with our proven IP model, is what sets us apart. It’s this combination – real human creativity, enhanced by AI, but never replaced by it – that will define the next era of content creation.”
Hjalmar Winbladh, Chair of Epidemic Sound, added:
“AI is accelerating change across technology and media much faster than most incumbent companies were built to handle. In this environment, it is not enough to add new tools on top of old ways of working. Companies need to rethink how they make decisions, how fast they execute, and how they organise to innovate continuously. At Epidemic Sound, we are choosing to act proactively — evolving both our platform and our operating model to compete and lead in a more AI-driven market.”
