Stockholm, Sweden – Epidemic Sound, the market-leading soundtrack innovation platform for content creators, has announced it has begun signing local artists in South Korea, celebrating with an event in Seoul on September 15, 2023.
The event brought together over 100 industry professionals, artists, and content creators, and featured performances from Epidemic Sound’s US-based K-pop artist Adelyn Paik and K-R&B artist I’MIN, as well as a keynote speech from Chief Business Development Officer, Tom Höglund.
“This event will serve as a catalyst for musicians and content creators in Asia, focusing on South Korea, to mutually benefit in one the world’s most vibrant online content markets,” commented Tom Höglund, Chief Business Development Officer at Epidemic Sound. “Korea is a musical powerhouse, much like Sweden, and I see it as the Sweden of Asia. We anticipate that by collaborating with Korea’s talented artists, content creators, and leading companies, both countries can lead the global music trend.”
The event marks the company’s continued investment in the region, coinciding with the signing of five new local artists, spanning across the genres of traditional Korean music, drama OSTs reflecting Korean sentiment, and Korean hip-hop. The signing of these new artists also follows a period in which demand for K-pop has risen dramatically on the platform, climbing from one of the top 100 genres to the top 20 since 2021. They join Epidemic Sound’s existing roster of US-based K-pop, K-hip-hop, and K-R&B artists, such as Adelyn Paik and I’MIN, and will collaborate with the in-house music team to add new tracks to the company’s catalog available for use in content globally.
The company is also working on localizing its services in the area. Across seven markets, Epidemic Sound has recently introduced the ability for content creators to access the platform in their local language, pay in their local currency and price, and use local payment solutions, and South Korea is set to be the next market where it will localize its service for content creators.
