Epidemic Sound’s Co-founder Oscar Höglund has announced his decision to step down as CEO after 18 years leading the company, and will take up a position on the board.
The board has appointed Sara Börsvik as interim CEO with immediate effect while it conducts a global search for a permanent CEO. Börsvik has been Epidemic Sound’s CFO for the past five years and brings extensive executive leadership and board experience, including as the former CEO of Bonnierförlagen.
Oscar Höglund said: “Leading Epidemic Sound for the past 18 years has been the privilege of my life. From the very beginning, our ambition was to transform an industry, and I’m incredibly proud of what we have built together. After nearly two decades of building and growing Epidemic Sound into the global company it is today, I’ve decided this is the right moment to transition away from day-to-day leadership and focus on supporting the company’s long-term future as co-founder and board member. I am delighted to be able to hand over to Sara who is exceptionally well placed not just to lead, but to elevate Epidemic Sound’s story in the interim.”
Chairperson Hjalmar Windbladh said: “Oscar has played an extraordinary role in building the company from its earliest days into the global business it is today. His vision and leadership have shaped both the company and the industry around it. We are deeply grateful for Oscar’s extraordinary contribution: his vision, ambition, and relentless drive have shaped Epidemic Sound’s culture, product, and global footprint. Importantly, Oscar is not stepping away from the company; he will join the board and continue to contribute actively at a strategic level as we build the next chapter.
“I have great confidence in Sara’s leadership and her ability to guide the company through this transition. Sara brings prior CEO experience, strong financial and operational discipline, and deep knowledge of the business through her role as CFO. She has the board’s full support and a clear mandate to maintain momentum, accelerate execution, and position the company for its next stage of growth. Combined with the strong entrepreneurial conviction and ambition represented by three co-founders now on the board, this creates powerful momentum for the company’s next phase of growth.”
Sara Börsvik said: “Epidemic Sound is a company with strong foundations, a unique market position, and significant future opportunity. My focus will be on accelerating the execution of our strategy, sharpening priorities, continuing to scale, and ensuring the company is in the strongest position for the next phase of growth. I’m honoured to take on this interim role and to work with our talented team around the world.”
